WHEN THEY'RE ROLLING
Syracuse's 2-3 zone isn't that complicated, but teams that don't often face zones find it daunting, particularly because Jeremy McNeil is a threat to block any shot inside the lane. Syracuse likes to get Carmelo Anthony the ball along the baseline, where he can score on drives or draw double-teams and pass to teammates. Gerry McNamara is an excellent shooter when he's open. The Orangemen are excellent at snatching offensive rebounds and finishing quickly.
WHEN THEY'RE STRUGGLING
The Orangemen can be sloppy. They like to score quickly and occasionally rush themselves into turnovers. Although Anthony and Kueth Duany can make deep shots, McNamara is the only player who absolutely must be guarded on the perimeter. Craig Forth is problematic, still playing without any apparent comfort level and mostly fouling or surrendering rebounds that should be his. Pittsburgh has shown that Syracuse's zone has flaws that can be exploited with patience, precise passing and strong finishes.
