Lucky Rolling Stone! No one ever has written a pop song about being on the cover of the SPORTING NEWS, but we'd like to think the front of our magazine connotes the same attainment of fame as our rock `n' roll sister's, just in a different field. The inside may sort out what's important, but the cover is there to sell the whole package--and nobody moves sports magazines like Michael Jordan.
Our cover list is not a perfect delineation of popularity. It doesn't include any covers before 1964, for instance. That's when we first started running magazine-style covers. Before that, all our covers were like a newspaper's, with multiple stories on the front page.
