TUZLA, April 11 (ONASA) - Deputy speaker of the Srebrenica municipal assembly Sadik Ahmetovic said on Friday that the manner in which Bosnian Muslim wartime commander Naser Oric was arrested on Thursday evening in Tuzla was "improper", since Oric had been saying that he would surrender to the Hague Tribunal if indicted.
Naser Oric is charged with six counts of war crimes in 1992-93, including murder and cruel treatment of Bosnian Serbs detained at a police station in the enclave of Srebrenica while it was under Muslim control. Oric led the defense of Srebrenica, which became a byword for atrocity after it was overrun in 1995 by Serb forces who massacred around 8,000 Muslim men and boys.
