Spoon, guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno, have accounted for a steady outpouring of releases since their 1994 formation in Austin. Kill The Moonlight, their fourth full-length album, is a spare affair instrumentally, relying on the guitar and drums to do the heavy lifting. There are hints of bass, sax, trombone, keys, other percussion, and varied electronica, but the focus is where it should be: on Daniel and Eno. Each song, regardless of the instrumental complements Daniel and Eno have brought on board, like Eggo Johanson's occasional piano, is propelled largely on the strength of Eno's percussive instincts. For instance, "Stay Don't Go" consists of a lone bass drum, Eno breathing another rhythm, bare, rhythmic guitar figure, and a bit of spare piano and electronics. Yet, it moves at lightening speed.
