The first round of the 27th PTNA (Piano Teachers' National Association of Japan) Piano Competition for Promising Pianists will be held June 2003.
There are two levels of competition: Special Grade, scheduled for June 21-22, open to pianists of all nationalities and ages, and G Grade, scheduled for June 7-8, where applicants must be twenty-six years old or younger.
Special Grade competitors can perform a piano solo or repertoire that includes concertos for two pianos; G Grade participants must perform a piano solo.
Competitors must complete the first preliminary and second preliminary stages to be eligible for the finals.
First-prize winners for Special Grade receive 1,000,000 yen, second-prize winners receive 400,000 yen and the third prize is worth 200,000 yen. A jury's special prize is also awarded to one or two contestants. Grade G winners receive 300,000 yen, second-prize winners receive 200,000 yen and the third prize is worth 100,000 yen.
