SOAP AND WATER 
 
   My grandfather washed his hands 
   in a tin bucket in the yard 
   the water milky with Palmolive soap 
 
   dried them on a hard scrap of towel 
   hanging on a nail outside the shed 
   which could not be opened 
 
   as he had packed it floor to ceiling
