Pianist Michelle Naughton, age 17, from Madison, Wisconsin, was named the first-prize winner of the PianoArts 2006 Biennial National Piano Concerto and Solo Competition.
Naughton performed in the final round with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra under the baton of PianoArts Music Director Andrews Sill. Presenting her with the $5,000 award was Elizabeth Joy Roe, PianoArts 1999 first-prize winner. Naughton also won the Wisconsin Contestant Prize of $350.
Naughton is a student of Christopher Taylor, professor of piano at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music.
