Brands are pushing more space, more doors, and more options as the kitchen fridge gets super-sized. One $14,000 GE bottom-freezer refrigerator spans 72 inches and claims 42 cubic feet of storage--equal to more than 100 large pizza boxes. But you needn't buy a pricey behemoth to get space and style.
For example, French-door refrigerators--which meld a bottom-freezer with split refrigerator doors, as side-by-side models do--are getting both cheaper and narrower to match smaller spaces and budgets. Several top performers now cost $1,800 or less. Maytag's $2,100 Ice2O is among the first French-door models with through-the-door ice and water.
