Honda introduced the four-door Fit hatchback this spring to fill a gap left as the Civic grew in size and price. New to the U.S., the Fit has been sold elsewhere in the world since 2001. (In some markets, it's called the Jazz.)
We bought a base model with an automatic transmission for $15,200 and a Sport model with a manual transmission for $15,720. All Fits come with standard power windows, locks, and mirrors; antilock brakes; and side-curtain air bags. The Sport adds 15-inch wheels, keyless remote entry, and cruise control.
First impressions. Despite its 157-inch length, the Fit feels tall and roomy. Cargo space is generous in part because the fuel tank is under the front floor. Folding the rear seats flat creates a large, tall, level cargo area. There is ample storage under the rear seats.
