My position as an administrator at a small Midwestern proprietary college from 1995 until 2000 provided me with my first experiences of working with Hmong students. Initially I was very curious about the low participation rate of Hmong women as compared to Hmong men. For those women who did attend, I wanted to understand how the traditional aspects of Hmong culture play out with them while they are in college.

As an educator at this nontraditional school, I also wanted to learn how the school itself met the needs of these women. My questions led me to the dissertation ...
