Over 90 players and executives from Major League Baseball have joined an organization staunchly opposed to abortion under any circumstance, including cases of rape, incest, and saving the life of the mother. Calling itself "Battin' 1000," the group lists both active and retired major leaguers among its members, many of whose names are well known to sports-conscious Americans.

Arizona Diamondbacks CEO Jerry Colangelo and officials of the Virginia-based American Life League (ALL) kicked off the effort on February 21st at a Phoenix press conference. The group hopes to raise $1 million to fund a "Campus For Life" center near the nation's capital that will be an ALL project.

In addition to Colangelo, participants include former managers Tommy Lasorda (Los Angeles), Sparky Anderson (Cincinnati and Detroit), and Joe Morgan (Boston).
