BRISBANE, April 1 Asia Pulse - Gympie Gold Ltd's (ASX:GYM) Hunter Valley coking coal operation is hoping to book record production in March.
After five disappointing months mining the 100-year-old Greta seam in the Hunter Valley, Gympie Gold's 90 per cent-owned Southland Colliery has returned to full production after recent ground condition problems.
The problems mean the colliery will fall nearly 500,000 tonnes short of its original forecast of 1.5 million tonnes in 2002/03.
Production had ran at 40 per cent capacity since September but as of six weeks ago the junior miner had overcome its problems.
Run-of-mine production was on track to exceed 200,000 tonnes for March, an all time record for the pit, with similar levels predicted for April and May 2003.
Breakeven at the mine was 100,000 tonnes but from September 2002 to February 2003 the operation averaged 50,000 tonnes per month.
