TAIPEI, April 1 Asia Pulse - Premier Yu Shyi-kun made an about-face and asked Cabinet agencies to move forward with possible legislation regarding the legalization of casinos on Taiwan's offshore counties.

Yu had previously instructed his administration to stop promoting the idea of legalizing casino gambling, but Cabinet spokesman Lin Chia-lung quoted Yu as saying during an Executive Yuan meeting on the development of outlying islands Monday that the Cabinet will respect any decision that the Legislative Yuan makes on the casino issue if a relevant casino law is passed.

Lin added that the government will hasten the implementation of the legislation, be it for or against opening casinos.

The meeting was one in a series held at the Executive Yuan by the Cabinet panel ...
