Doosan Heavy Industries threatens temporary closure to avert union unrest.

Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction Co. threatened Thursday to close its workshops to avert possible violent clashes during a general strike planned by a South Korean labor group.

Some 50 people were injured in clashes between security guards and union members last week and the militant Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), one of the country's two labor groups, has called for a general strike from March 20.

Around 1,000 KCTU activists have formed the so-called "fight-to-death squad" to support Doosan's union.

The firm's plant in the southern industrial city of Changwon has been hit by labor disputes …
