NORWAY has awarded exploration and production blocks to nine oil companies, including majors and independents in the North Sea.
In this year's awards, 11 new production licences have been awarded from the northern part of Norway's sector to the most southern area close to the Danish border.
Norsk Hydro, Danish state oil firm Dong and ExxonMobil have each gained operatorship of two licences, while Statoil, Agip, DNO, Pertra and RWE DEA are operators of single blocks.
Norway's minister of petroleum Einar Steensnaes is satisfied with the round.
'The production licences offered are a suitable combination of additional acreage to existing production licences and blocks in areas where the companies want to explore new possibilities,' he said.
