DESPITE a very favourable year in 2002, the aviation insurance market could face a sharp drop in premium income this year as major airlines struggle to survive. Passenger loads are well down on virtually every route flown by every airline.
Even before the Iraqi war, airlines, particularly transatlantic carriers, were trying to restore passenger confidence after the events of September 11, with business class revenue taking the biggest hammering. Now the Iraqi conflict has caused further loss of confidence and smothered any hope of recovery in the near future.
