MASSIVE expansion plans at Yantian International Container Terminals in Shenzhen, China, have yielded contracts to fulfil one of the largest ever orders for container cranes in the space of nine months, writes Hugh O'Mahony.
Chinese crane builder Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co earlier won the deal to build 57 box cranes, reckoned to be the largest box crane order ever placed singly outside Singapore, at a price said to be close to $110m.
However, the short lead time was contingent on settling the deal to supply electrical equipment.
ABB announced yesterday that it would be sole electrical supplier.
