Li won't belt up
PRODUCT and business liability insurers are bracing themselves for the outcome of a Chinese court case as a man sues the shop which sold him a belt that came loose during a business meeting.
Mr Li, from Zhengzhou in Henan Province, bought the belt for GBP50 (US$85) before going to an interview with a Canadian executive to negotiate for a contract to run an immigration agency worth GBP80,000.
But when he went to shake her hand, the belt came loose. China Daily reports that the woman was forced to look away in embarrassment. Mr Li, being a well-bred individual, apologised for the accidental exposure and retired to the toilet to rearrange himself. Unfortunately, and craving your indulgence for a suspension of disbelief greater than the suspension provided by the offending article, the self-same disaster befell him again midway through their subsequent conversation.
Presumably assuming that to drop your trousers during a business meeting once is unfortunate, but to drop them twice looks like behaviour likely to breach public decency laws, the hard-hearted Canadian did not give Mr Li the contract.
