Taipei, March 28, 2003 (CENS)--Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS), the telecom-technology unit of the Chi Mei Group, recently secured an order for its GPRS (general packet radio service) cards from cellular-service provider TransAsia Telecom Inc. The order is for nearly 5,000 cards at a unit price of NT$5,000 (US$140 at US$1:NT$35) or so. TransAsia will sell the cards to for NT$2,990 (US$85) to subscribers to enable them to use their notebook computers and personal digital assistants (PDAs) for wireless communications. TransAsia's holding company, Taiwan Cellular Corp., may also buy the cards after evaluating the TransAsia-CMCS deal. …
