EAST MANATEE -- Thirty-two baseball players listened attentively to their coach.

"Arm angle, ball back, throw, rotation. Work on the rotation," Danny Lee coached in a patient but firm voice, training the young athletes how to throw a baseball.

The players, age 5 to 12, are spending mornings of their spring break from school learning at the Grass Roots Baseball Camp at Braden River Park off State Road 70 and Natalie Way.

After the daily warm-up exercises, campers learn skill-specific instructions and repeat drills in base running, sliding, fielding, pitching and catching. They also play in scrimmage…
