At around noon on January 20th, Dana Pritt of Pace, Florida, was asleep at home when a loud banging noise awakened him. Hearing a sliding glass door open, he grabbed a .22-caliber handgun from his nightstand and went to investigate. Walking down a hallway, he saw an intruder enter the master bedroom. As Pritt approached the bedroom door, his gun accidentally discharged, striking the prowler, Derek Stokes, in the right calf. When Stokes lunged at Pritt, the homeowner fired a second shot that hit Stokes in the lower jaw.
