Page eight of the "Insider Report" in your December 30, 2002 issue began with a short article entitled "Outcry Scuttles TIPS Spy Program" followed by an article entitled "TIPS Down, but What About TIA?" The first article describes the legislative demise of the federal government's putative plan to have civilian spies keep an eye on fellow Americans; the second article describes the government's plan to keep an eye on Americans via electronic means.
The juxtaposition of these two articles just screams "Marxist Dialectic." Surely many Americans take a deep breath knowing that their mailman (sorry, mail carrier) won't officially be spying on them via TIPS (Terrorism Information and Prevention System). But the electronic surveillance of ...
