AUSTRALIAN dairy farmers will get a milk payout 10-to-20 per cent higher than New Zealand farmers, despite their devastating drought, says Dairy Farmers of New Zealand chairman Kevin Wooding.

"Their companies managed their stocks, while Fonterra dumped ours at the bottom of the market," said Mr Wooding, who recently met Australian dairy farming leaders.

The added irony was that Fonterra had a stake in some of the Australian companies which would do better than it, he said.

The prospect of further disparities in payouts -- Fonterra's will be announced in July -- will guarantee tough …
