Royal Mail Quashes Post Office Closure Fears.

The Royal Mail has assured a North-east community that there is no intention to close down its local post office.

The small outlet at Stuartfield has been closed for more than a month while an internal fraud inquiry is carried out.

Yesterday, officials were still unable to say when the branch would be reopened.

But they quashed speculation that the store would be closed down for good.

It was originally shut last month after a routine audit.

The results of this led to the launch of a full probe by the postal service's fraud investigation team.
