Several thousand anti-war protesters took to the streets in Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver, slamming the US-led war in Iraq as an illegal act of aggression that Canada should denounce.
In Ottawa, some 400 peace activists protested in front of the US embassy before moving their rain-soaked march to the parliament buildings.
Inside parliament, members of various political parties voted 153-50 late Thursday "not to participate in the military intervention initiated by the United States in Iraq."
