Greenpeace Canada and protesters demonstrating in front of the US consulate in Toronto urged the Canadian government to denounce the US-led war on Iraq as "illegal" and to stop it.
Peter Tabuns, executive director of Greenpeace Canada, said it "wants the prime minister to say very loudly and clearly that this war is illegal."
Earlier Thursday, Prime Minister Jean Chretien declined to debate whether the war was necessary, but earlier this week he said it was not justified.
