SURAT: Six out of 10 girls in the 17-20 year age group in the city and surrounding areas have been found to be anaemic in a medical survey conducted by doctors of the Government Medical College (GMC) here.

Contrary to the general belief that urban girls compared to those in rural areas would have fewer nutrition-related problems, the survey conducted among 128 girls of whom 83 were from urban and 45 from rural areas, concluded that 56 per cent of urban girls and 62 per cent of girls from rural areas were found to be lacking in iron reserves essential for sound physical growth.
