The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is at a crossroads. There are exciting growth prospects and many opportunities to enhance the competitiveness and well-being of the region's people.

However, Asean's 10 member nations must also be mindful of the dramatic pace of change taking place globally. In the arenas of geo-politics, international trade and capital investments, and the competitiveness of corporations and skills of the workforce, they run the risk of being left behind and economically marginalised if they do not continue to work hard to strengthen their capabilities and presence in the international community. …
