A South African sports chief has dismissed Nigeria's much-trumpeted intention to bid for the 2010 football World Cup finals along with four other neighbouring countries, insisting that the most populous black nation on earth is probably eyeing some other major international event like the Commonwealth Games.

"It becomes even more difficult for your aspirations especially now that FIFA has come out to say they are no longer favourably disposed to more than one host nation. "We (South Africa) stand a much better chance because we have the plan to provide all the facilities within one country", …
