A LLYN Cox (1896-1982), one of the nation's leading twentieth-century muralists, was best known for the frescoes he painted in the great rotunda of the United States Capitol. He studied at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League in New York City before he completed his first mural for the Windsor Public Library in Vermont at the age of twenty in 1916. That same year he was awarded a scholarship to study at the American Academy in Rome. During his long career Cox served as president of the National Society of Mural Painters, the New York City Art Commission, and the American Artists Professional League. The Adams Davidson Galleries in Washington, D. C., is compiling a checklist of Cox's works in oils, tempera, fresco, and drawings for mosaics and stained-glass windows. Anyone who owns works by Cox, information relating to him, or knowledge of the whereabouts of his works, please contact:
