SARASOTA COUNTY -- Rather than spend millions to patch up four of its oldest campuses, the school district is considering rebuilding those schools within the next 10 years.
And the schools could be replaced much sooner if the School Board decides to take on more than $100 million in debt to put the projects on a fast track.
At a workshop today, the School Board will consider rebuilding Wilkinson and Phillippi elementaries in Sarasota and Venice Elementary at a cost of about $14 million each. Even patching the schools would cost about half that amount.
But the biggest project up for consideration is the relocation and construction of Riverview High School at an estimated cost of about $40 million. District officials want…
