A new program held in February at the University of California Berkeley focused on helping women of color overcome the special challenges they face in the academy.

"Strengthening Our Place in the Academy" was a summit for women senior faculty and administrators of color. More than 50 women who are African American, Asian American, American Indian or Latino attended the program by invitation.

They discussed how to frame the issues, struggles against misperceptions, developing new leaders, resource management, global connections, connecting with other constituencies, understanding and managing ...
