IMF warns against protectionism in Kazakh industrial development policy.

Astana, 4 March: The IMF has advised the Kazakh government to refrain from protectionism regarding certain branches of the Kazakh economy while drawing up a new industrial [development] policy.

"We are somewhat concerned about the active industrial policy of the Kazakh authorities, when the government officials choose which sectors of the economy and industry deserve support for development," Peter Keller, the head of the mission [in Kazakhstan] and the assistant director of the European II Department of the IMF, said during a conversation with the deputies of the Senate (upper house) of the Kazakh parliament. …
