MANILA, March 3 Asia Pulse - The Philippine government will ask the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to reconsider its decision to impose a wage cut of HK$400 (US$51) on the salaries of foreign maids, including thousands of Filipinas.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Blas Ople said Friday he has already instructed the Philippine Consul General to Hong Kong Victoria Bataclan to file a motion for reconsideration before the Hong Kong government.
"We will continue to pursue this appeal for reconsideration," Ople told reporters after the conclusion of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) between Philippines and Vietnam in Manila.
Ople said he believes the tax levy Hong Kong will impose on employers will later be passed on to the foreign maids.
"I consider this very unfair and unwise on the part of the HKSAR," the secretary said.
