CANBERRA, March 3 Asia Pulse - The government should dump its support for a A$12 (US$7.29) a week safety net wage rise and continue with its current budget approach, according to a pre-Budget submission released by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) today.
ACCI chief executive Peter Hendy said a Budget surplus, and limited public spending, had helped Australia survive the economic turmoil of recent years.
"ACCI is looking for a continuation of the broad policy framework that has made Australia one of the most successful economies in the world today," he said in a statement.
Mr Hendy said apart from another Budget surplus, business wanted limited growth in the real level of spending, maintenance of an open economy with the abolition of the Tariff Concession Scheme and a move away from recurrent spending to infrastructure projects.
