EMERYVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 2003
Netopia, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTPA), a market leader in broadband equipment, software and services, today announced the general market availability of the Cayman(R) 3381-ENT and 3386-ENT Cable/DSL Routers. Designed specifically for mass deployment by Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) serving the distributed enterprise market, the Cayman 3300-ENT Series are compact next-generation devices ideal for branch office and teleworker applications.
Enterprises worldwide use DSL and cable connections to offer remote workers and branch offices the productivity and cost savings benefits of always-on access to the corporate network through broadband. To protect corporate assets on the network and ensure uptime for critical applications, these customers require robust routing, firewall and virtual private networking (VPN) capabilities. The Cayman 3300-ENT Series routers provide this functionality in a device that is remotely manageable and comes with a rich set of diagnostic and security features. Both of Netopia's new Cable/DSL routers turn any cable or DSL modem connection into a secure and remotely manageable end-point.
"Our managed service provider customers have asked us to deliver business-class functionality at lower costs in order to take advantage of distributed enterprise revenue opportunities from the more than 2 million branch offices and 30 million at-home workers nation-wide," said Jeff Porter, vice president of marketing at Netopia, Inc. "Today's introduction of Netopia's new Cayman Cable/DSL gateways is another step forward as Netopia delivers a complete product line of business-class broadband gateways that utilize a 'system-on-a-chip' design to deliver world-class performance at highly competitive prices."
The Cayman 3381-ENT is built with a single Ethernet WAN port providing LAN connectivity through a single 10/100 Ethernet and a USB port while the Cayman 3386-ENT incorporates a single Ethernet WAN port with connectivity through a built-in 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch. The 3381-ENT is ideally suited to deliver an economical and protected connection for teleworker applications, while the 3386-ENT enables small branch offices with multiple PCs to seamlessly connect to a larger branch or to the central office.
The Cayman 3381-ENT and the 3386-ENT are fully compatible with Netopia's netOctopus(R) software suite of broadband management tools. The netOctopus suite includes two integrated modules: netOctopus EdgeManager, which permits network operations teams to support large installations of modems, gateways and routers, and netOctopus DesktopSupport, which provides instant online customer service and assistance by enabling technical support and customer service agents to view and operate a customer's PC remotely and securely.
