Iranian conservatives had a massive lead over reformers who had previously monopolised Tehran City Council, with some 20 percent of votes counted from the previous day's local elections.

The conservatives were set to take 14 of the council's 15 seats on the basis of the partial count, Tehran Governor Ali Osat-Hashemi told the official IRNA and pro-reform ISNA news agencies.
