NEWRY'S Liam Lennon was always a top operator as a jockey but he has made his mark quickly in training circles and Francoskid has already given him two wins.
Successful at Down Royal's Christmas meeting Francoskid went on to win at Musselburgh and give Lennon an unusual success for this was his first runner as a trainer outside Ireland.
Francoskid skipped home that day at 14-1 but he's unlikely to be that price in the Powers Ulster National at Downpatrick next Wednesday.
Lennon said: "I have a small string of horses and I thought I would give Francoskid his chance in this race. It usually cuts up and it is unlikely that top-class horses will run. So I feel he will give a good account of himself.".
But Liam may be underestimating next Wednesday's race for there are in my view plenty of decent horses who could win. Thirty have been entered and you would have to look to trainers like Arthur Moore, Dessie Hughes, Noel Meade and Eamonn Sheehy.
