DOUG Macdonald is to go surgery on Monday in a bid to save his season.

The Belfast Giants forward has been out of action since the final regular season game in Bracknell two weeks ago and, after having an MRI scan, hopes that surgery can cure is knee problem.

He will have keyhole surgery to shave the cartilage, hoping that it will see him make a return to the ice before the end of March.

"The scans came back and I saw a specialist and this is what has been recommended," said Macdonald.
