JONATHAN Rea, 16-year-old son of former Irish champion road racer Johnnie Rea, has won a pound sterling75,000 deal to join the Red Bull Rookie Honda team for the 2003 British 125cc Championship.
Rea, who comes from Ballyclare, entered the Red Bull competition back in November and was one of over a 100 teenagers who applied for a one-year race contract.
The entrants were eventually whittled down to four who went to Spain this week for final judging by the panel which included Belfast rider Jeremy McWilliams.
According to McWilliams, Rea gave "an incredible performance on the Cartagena circuit and his choice was virtually automatic."
