LHP Randy Johnson, who has won the last four N.L. Cy Young Awards and turns 40 in September, says he worked harder than usual on conditioning this offseason. Johnson also may make a slight adjustment to his delivery. A few sessions with consultant Tom House, a former major league pitching coach, convinced Johnson he can make even better use of his 6-10 frame by releasing the ball 6 to 7 inches closer to the batter. Johnson slowly will incorporate the change this spring. In addition to making his fastball seem even faster, Johnson believes the adjustment can take some stress off the front of his shoulder, where he tends to get sore.... LHP ...
