The Government Receivables Group was set up 10 years ago to serve members, regardless of size, who provide products and services to the United States Government. Susan Hemingway, Director of NACM's Government Receivables Group, joined NACM in early 2002 after working in the government contracting arena for more than 22 years.
GRG provides information and/or the forum in which to receive information regarding changes in laws, processes and procedures within the Federal Government. The primary goals are to help members find ways to reduce government contract receivables backlog and to provide instruction regarding the federal billing and collection process. Most members work in the finance and accounting areas of their company and are concerned most about cash management, billing, accounts receivable and collection issues.
GRG trains and educates vendors through conferences, which are open to members (at a reduced member rate) and non-members alike. The conference presentations help attendees understand why delays occur, what can be done to correct them and how to collect money due. Six conferences are conducted each year at various locations throughout the country, and representatives are invited from multiple government agencies to speak about areas of their expertise, as well as provide presentations on the latest technologies affecting cash collection efforts. There are many opportunities to network with fellow credit and collection professionals to gain insight on their perspectives and methodologies.
