On January 1st, 74-year-old Oscar Lacombe, a 27-year veteran of the Canadian military and lifetime honorary sergeant-at-arms for the Alberta legislature, "strode onto the Alberta Legislature grounds carrying a rifle," recounted the January 20th issue of The Report. The bolt had been removed from the old Mark VII rifle, and the gun had been carefully wrapped in plastic.
Wearing a fringed buckskin jacket adorned with a chest full of war medals, Lacombe explained to the assembled press and public that he refused to comply with Canada's new gun registration law, which dictates fines of $2,000 or six months in jail for noncompliance.
