Okazaki scientists find gastric ulcer trigger

Scientists at the Okazaki National Research Institutes have discovered the mechanism by which Helicobacter pylori causes gastric ulcers, British science magazine Nature Genetics reported in its online edition Monday.

The discovery by a group of scientists led by Prof. Masaharu Noda at the institutes based in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, is expected to aid the treatment of gastric ulcers caused by the spiral-shaped bacterium that lives in the stomach.
