Ernst Toch (1887-1964) was a Vienna-born Jewish composer much more well known in the 1920s than today. His career began a decline when he was forced out of Germany in the 1930s and came to America to teach and write film scores, but his music still has much to commend it. The two pieces represented on this disc, the Cello Concerto and the Dance Suite, derive from 1925 and 1923 respectively.
