If higher education provides 90% of its opportunities to learn through out-of-classroom experiences, some students learned a lot this fall.
* At Iowa State University, eight female students in a Women's Studies class complained about a mural in the kitchen of a coed dorm that features three heavily-armed soldiers, one carrying a beer keg and another a buxom women. Students have added items to the 1984 mural, including condoms and references to a date rape drug.
After complaining to administrators about the sexist art that harasses women, in violation of a university ban, the students got nowhere. So they papered the campus with fliers citing recent statistics on date rape. They were told to resolve their differences with its male supporters.
