Embakasi MP David Mwenje yesterday defended Mungiki's work at bus terminuses as matatu [commuter minibus] owners rejected a government proposal that council employees man vehicle stages.

Mr Mwenje asked the government to spare the sect members operating in Dandora, a day after they paralysed matatu business following a crackdown on the outlawed group.

The sect members, he explained, manned the routes and bus terminuses with the authority of matatu owners.

Mr Mwenje, who met the drivers at Dandora Phase II BP petrol station said, the Dandora group was different from the gang that butchered people in Nakuru last week. …
