Taipei, Jan. 17 (CNA) Wu Teh-mei, wife of the speaker of the Kaohsiung City Council, Chu An-hsiung, was released Friday on bail after 20 days in custody pending investigations into her role in her husband's alleged vote-buying scheme.

Wu, who was taken into custody on Dec. 28 by prosecutors on suspicion of aiding her husband in buying votes in the council speaker election, has requested to be released since Jan. 9 and the Kaohsiung District Court granted her request Friday, setting bail at NT$300,000 (US$8,695).
