By Lee Joo-hee Staff reporter The amount of container cargo handled at ports nationwide last year surpassed the 10 million TEUs (20 feet container equivalent units) mark for the first time in history, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries said yesterday, The ministry said a total of 11.75 million TEUs were managed at seaports here, including at Busan and Gwangyang. The container cargo volumes handled at national ports has continued to increase over the years, from 1.6 million TEUs in 1986 to 2.28 million TEUs in 1988, from 3.32 million TEUs in 1993 to 5.37 million TEUs in 1996, from 7.68 million TEUs in 1999 to 9.11 million TEUs in …
