Taiwanese shipping giant Evergreen Marine and Zim Israel Navigation will launch a service between Asia and the United States east coast by the middle of the year.

The new service, using nine ships in the mid-size 3,000-teu (20-ft equivalent unit) capacity range, will travel via the Panama Canal rather than use land transport options across America.

This will inject 150,000 teu of annualised capacity on to a route which is stealing volume from the transpacific trades, lifting handling pressure on ports in the US, …
